TypeAraby stands out as a unique hub for Arabic typography, seamlessly integrating pedagogy, discourse, and practice. Operating from a space of revisionism and decolonization of design education and research, TypeAraby is not concerned with linear progress or a formal evolution of type design, but engages with a philosophical conversation of form and meaning that embraces language and tradition as living inspiration.

By challenging prevailing biases against non-Western cultures in design it presents a counter-narrative that celebrates the richness of Arabic visual culture, traditional craft, and Eastern philosophies while challenging outdated notions of their incompatibility with modern design aesthetics. Language becomes a pivotal focal point for the lab, not only for artistic expression, but for engaging with political and social ideas. The lab's design production reflects a profound contemplation, and grappling with, the nuanced similarities and differences within our individual cultural contexts.
